DDaniela Hantuchova` was born in Poprad, Slovakia. She is a 5’11, 123 pound quick rising tennis pro. She was mentored by Martina Navratilova, who also became her doubles partner for a brief episode in 2005. She is, as of October 2007, number 9 on the WTA ranking for her singles play. She has also been featured in ACE tennis magazine as one of the world’s most sexy tennis players. This 24 year old is fast becoming one of the greatest and best known women’s tennis players of all time. This up and rising star has been referred to as the “Legs of Slovakia” because of her height and her long legs. She is also accredited with having one of the most beautiful faces in tennis. Incidentally, Daniela was accepted into one of the top universities in Slovakia, but decided to instead pursue a career in professional tennis, and the pro women’s tennis circuit will never again be the same. She won her first WTA singles title in 2002 at Indian Wells, and went on to finish 2002 with a #8 ranking in the women’s singles. She was only 19 years old at that time. She has won several other title matches since then, to include 2 WTA titles and 3 ITF titles. She still earns the attention of most paparazzi whether she’s competing or not. Due to her beauty and her long legs, she is bombarded by picture taking wherever she goes. Possibly her greatest victory was over Serena Williams, seven time Grand Slam tournament champion, when she defeated Williams in 2006 in the Australian Open with a 6-1, 7-6, (5) victory over the champ. And Serena Williams, as we all know, is a hard cookie to crumble, yet Daniela upset her and reigned supreme. Her current win/loss record is 22-12 and 4-5 for 2007. She is a lean, mean, tennis machine and does not seem to be slowing down. At just 24 years old, you would think that she has a lot to learn, but it seems that she has learned every trick in the book. This phenomenon from Slovakia just keeps getting better and better. She has been beaten and came up fighting, and with the Australian Open looming just a few months away, you have to know that she is getting ready. She will without a doubt be looking at the Wimbledon Cup sometime in her very near future.
